Two Pertamina Vessels Detained in Arabian Gulf; Management Awaits Safe Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
JAKARTA — PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has disclosed that two company-owned vessels remain detained in the Arabian Gulf.
The two vessels are awaiting a safe situation in the Middle East to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita stated that the company operates four vessel units in the Middle East region.
Two vessel units currently operating in the Middle East are the VLCC Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, both positioned in the Arabian Gulf.
“These vessels are awaiting a safe situation to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Both are in secure condition,” Vega stated in a statement on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
The Gamsunoro vessel is servicing cargo belonging to third-party customers.
Meanwhile, the VLCC Pertamina Pride is on a mission to transport crude oil supplies (light crude oil) to meet domestic energy requirements.
Despite the two vessels remaining detained, Vega assured that the energy supply chain and distribution remain solid, both in international and Indonesian waters.
“The energy supply chain and distribution remain solid, supported by at least 345 vessel fleet under the management of other Pertamina Group entities,” he stated.
He added that Pertamina Group has coordinated with the government in implementing regular, alternative, and emergency methods to determine the most effective and secure supply chain to meet the public’s energy requirements and ensure smooth distribution.
Additionally, PIS continues to conduct intensive 24-hour real-time monitoring of all fleet positions, crew, and personnel.
“We are also maintaining close coordination with maritime authorities and competent local authorities to ensure the safety and security of all vessel crew and cargo being transported,” Vega said.
