Two Pertamina Tankers Remain Trapped in Strait of Hormuz; Company Monitors Crew Safety
Two tanker vessels operated by PT Pertamina International Shipping, a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero), remain trapped in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait’s conditions have been significantly affected by the escalating conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran.
According to reports, PT Pertamina’s Corporate Secretary Arya Dwi Paramita stated that the company is conducting continuous monitoring to observe developments regarding the vessel conditions and crew safety.
“We maintain communication and coordination, with ongoing updates, and we continue to monitor developments closely. The vessels remain under constant surveillance,” said Arya in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Arya expressed hope that the crew remains in good condition and can return safely.
“Our priority remains the safety of both our assets and personnel stationed there. We continue to monitor the situation and are making every effort to support them,” he explained.
Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the government is pursuing diplomatic channels to enable both vessels to exit the Strait of Hormuz.
“We are actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to find a better way for their release,” said Bahlil at the ESDM Ministry headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 March.
Bahlil disclosed that the government is preparing alternative measures by sourcing crude oil supplies from outside the Strait of Hormuz. This contingency plan has been established in anticipation that the two vessels may not be able to exit the strait.
“Even if these vessels cannot be released, we have already identified alternative crude oil sources and have secured them. So I do not believe this presents a significant problem,” Bahlil explained.
