Two Pertamina Ships Trapped in the Strait of Hormuz, Bahlil: We Are Negotiating
Jakarta, VIVA – PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) reports that two of its vessels remain trapped in the Hormuz Strait region: Pertamina Pride with NYK Ship Management, and the Gamsunoro, currently managed by Synergy Ship Management. They are being monitored in real time to ensure safety. In response, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the government is engaging in negotiations to free the two PIS tanker ships in the Strait of Hormuz. ‘There are two cargos stuck in the Strait of Hormuz belonging to Pertamina. The ships are currently in port to seek a safer place, while we conduct negotiations,’ Bahlil said in Jakarta, quoted Thursday, March 5, 2026. Pertamina has also confirmed the safety of the crew amid the ongoing conflict between the United States-Israel and Iran in the region. The two tankers stuck in the Straits of Hormuz do not threaten Indonesia’s energy resilience, as Indonesia is quickly seeking energy alternatives in the United States. ‘Geopolitics is not in a stable state, but the government’s readiness to design and prepare all crude, fuel, and LPG alternatives is, God willing, safe,’ Bahlil commented. It is known that PIS on Monday (March 2) disclosed that four ships are in the Middle East area: Gamsunoro is loading in Khor al Zubair, Iraq; Pertamina Pride has completed loading and is now docked in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia; PIS Rinjani is currently docked in Khor Fakkan, UAE; and PIS Paragon is discharging in Oman. ‘We are trying to get both ships out of the strait area as soon as possible. Our fleet team is currently in intensive communication with the operator to coordinate and ensure the safety of the crew and ships,’ said Vega Pita, PIS’s acting Corporate Secretary. (Ant)
