Two Main Sections of Palembang-Betung Toll Road Completed in Third Quarter
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the construction of the Kayuagung–Palembang–Betung Toll Road as part of strengthening connectivity along the main corridor of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS).
Two priority sections, namely Section 1 Kramasan–Sungai Rengas and Section 2 Sungai Rengas–Pangkalan Balai, are targeted to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the toll road project offers significant benefits for supporting community mobility and logistics distribution in Sumatra.
“We continue to support the construction of this project so that it is completed on time because it provides great benefits to the public,” Dody explained on Monday (4/5/2026).
The Kayuagung–Palembang section, spanning 37.62 km, is already operational, while the extension to Betung, spanning 69.19 km, is still under construction.
The construction of the Palembang–Betung Toll Road is divided into three sections. Section 1 Kramasan–Sungai Rengas is 21.5 km long, Section 2 Sungai Rengas–Pangkalan Balai is 33 km long, and Section 3 Pangkalan Balai–Betung is 14.69 km long.
Currently, the acceleration of construction is focused on Sections 1 and 2 because they are considered strategic in strengthening connectivity from the Palembang urban area to the northern region of South Sumatra and supporting inter-provincial logistics flows.
Based on the latest progress, Section 1 has recorded 95.43% land acquisition with 92.07% construction progress.
Meanwhile, Section 2 has recorded 95.58% land acquisition progress and 89.88% construction progress.
Both sections are targeted to complete construction in the third quarter of 2026.
Meanwhile, Section 3 Pangkalan Balai–Betung currently records 86.15% land acquisition progress and 51.82% construction progress. That section is targeted for completion in early 2027.
Construction work on Sections 1 and 2 is being carried out by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, while Section 3 is being handled by PT Hutama Karya Infrastruktur or HKI.
Overall, this toll road project has an investment value of around Rp 14.98 trillion with a 50-year concession period.
The presence of this toll road is expected to reduce travel time from Palembang to Betung from around three hours to about one hour, while also improving logistics distribution efficiency and economic growth in South Sumatra.
