According to the latest data from the Palu Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas) as of 13:30 Central Indonesia Time, two of the eight victims sustained serious injuries. Both victims are residents of Kamarora Village, Nokilalaki District, who suffered fractures and head injuries after being struck by falling rubble.
Meanwhile, the six other victims were reported to have minor injuries, comprising three residents from Nokilalaki District, two from Palolo District, and one from Sigi District.
βAll injured victims have now been evacuated and are undergoing intensive treatment at Torabelo Palolo Hospital in Sigi Regency,β said Head of Basarnas Palu, Muh Rizal.
Rizal added that his team continues to coordinate with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and local agencies to update damage impact data in the field.
Referring to data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicentre of the shallow 10-kilometre-deep land earthquake was located 42 kilometres southeast of Palu City (1.04 South Latitude and 120.23 East Longitude) and was declared not to have tsunami potential.
Nevertheless, the strong tremors felt in Palu, Sigi, Parigi Moutong, Poso, and Tojo Una-Una triggered mass panic, with residents rushing out of buildings.
