Two Floating Pumps Deployed to Tackle Waterlogging on DI Panjaitan Road
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Joint personnel deployed two floating pumps to help tackle waterlogging on Jalan DI Panjaitan, Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta.
“To accelerate the handling of waterlogging, two floating pumps were deployed to the location,” said the Head of the Water Resources Unit for Jatinegara Sub-district, Meta Pradoningrum, in Jakarta on Thursday.
Heavy rain that fell this morning caused waterlogging of approximately 30-50 centimetres on Jalan DI Panjaitan.
Joint personnel from the Urban Facilities and Infrastructure Unit (PPSU), the Water Resources Implementation Unit (Satpel SDA), the Transportation Sub-agency, and the local Traffic Area Unit (Satwil Lantas) assisted in managing the waterlogging and directing traffic.
Meta said that 10 Blue Squad personnel, two floating pumps, one Atlas Copco MP 19 pump unit and one KSB 300 pump unit were deployed to address the waterlogging.
The waterlogging began at approximately 08:15 when rain fell with high intensity. “However, by 09:30 Western Indonesian Time, the waterlogging had gradually subsided,” Meta said.
Furthermore, Meta explained that during the rainy season, personnel readiness is continually heightened, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging and flooding.
“We will move quickly to address any waterlogging so it recedes promptly and does not disrupt residents’ mobility,” she said.
The Village Head of Cipinang Cempedak, Rico Eka Putra Rifai, said his office also deployed eight Orange Squad members to assist with response efforts at the location.
“They cleared rubbish blocking drainage channels and helped with traffic management,” he said.
The East Jakarta City Government confirmed that the drainage “jacking” project on Jalan DI Panjaitan is still underway and is targeted for completion in 2026.
“Jalan DI Panjaitan is currently in the ‘jacking’ construction phase. We are targeting this year, 2026, for completion,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta Regional Job Training Centre (PPKD) on Monday (9 February).
He noted that the project is one of the government’s efforts to address the flooding and traffic congestion problems that frequently occur in the area.
The “jacking” method involves installing pipes by boring underground beneath the road surface and then pushing the pipes through using hydraulic pressure.
