Two die in three-way crash

SEMARANG, Central Java: Two people were killed and 20 others injured yesterday morning in a road accident involving a bus, a van and a motorcycle in the Tanjakan Tanah Putih area of Semarang.

Police said the Umbul Mulyo bus was traveling at high speed when the driver realized that the brakes were defective. It collided with the van, which had been traveling in the opposite direction, and then hit the motorcycle, before slamming into a nearby goat pen, Antara reported.

One of the victims was identified as 46-year-old Djaswadi of Semarang. The other person killed in the accident could not immediately be established because he was not carrying any identity documents.

The 20 victims were being treated at Rumani general hospital. (emb)
