Two die in landslide

BANJARNEGARA, Central Java: A landslide killed at least two people and seriously injured another Sunday in Sinanjer Clapar village, Banjarnegara regency.

The three and several other residents were digging on the slope of a hill when the soil suddenly collapsed, Junaidi, a witness, was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.

Junaidi said they were digging up the hill to use the dirt to build a road linking their homes to a nearby mosque.

"It happened so fast that some of us could not escape," said another villager, Hasan. (swe)
