Two bodies of victims recovered from Bantargebang waste processing facility landslide
Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) for DKI Jakarta has recovered two additional bodies of victims buried under a landslide of waste at the Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST) Bantargebang, located in Ciketing Udik Village, Bantargebang District, Bekasi City, West Java.
“At 12:05 WIB, one victim named Jussova Situmorang was successfully recovered in a deceased condition,” said Jakarta SAR Office Head Desiana Kartika Bahari in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
Subsequently, at 17:50 WIB, the combined SAR team recovered another victim identified as Hardianto in a deceased condition at the edge of a river, buried under waste accumulation.
“Both have been immediately transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital for identification proceedings,” she said.
Desiana added that the agency continues to conduct victim count verification based on statements from witnesses and families who have lost relatives.
She also explained that the agency has undertaken various search efforts together with 336 combined personnel, deploying heavy equipment and K9 units to search for signs of victims.
“In addition, searches are also being conducted using thermal drones for aerial sweeps by detecting body heat,” Desiana said.
