Twelve vehicles in chain collisions

BEKASI, West Java (JP): Twelve vehicles crashed in two separate chain collisions on the Cikampek-Cawang toll road during a heavy down pour on Wednesday evening.

Five vehicles were involved in a pile-up at 7 p.m. when a minivan and a Kijang minibus crashed causing two jeeps and a sedan to crash into them.

One person was seriously injured and another suffered minor injuries in the accident.

An hour later another seven vehicles were involved in a chain collision on the same road in Cibitung, some 25-kilometers away.

A trailer truck ran into the back of a truck in front of it, causing a minivan, two mini buses, a pick-up and two sedans following to collide.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the second crash, and five vehicles were damaged.

"The chain collisions happened because drivers were too close to each other on the wet road," a highway road company official said yesterday. (kod)
