TWC prepares innovations to attract tourists to Borobudur Temple during Eid 2026
PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) is preparing a range of innovations and new programmes to attract and provide comfort for tourists spending the long Eid holiday in 2026 at Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java.
TWC Commercial Director Gistang Richard Panutur in Magelang on Monday stated that the target for visits during the 10-day long Eid holiday in 2026 is 83,000 tourists, with an average daily visit ranging from 7,000 to 8,500 people per day.
Therefore, from an operational perspective, according to him, the managers of Borobudur Temple are implementing several innovations, one of which is adjusting service hours, where tourists wishing to climb the temple structure can enter the first session at 08:00 WIB. On regular days, the first session starts at 08:30 WIB.
TWC, he continued, is focusing on enhancing services for priority groups such as pregnant women, people with disabilities, the elderly, and visitors with infants, to ensure comfort while in the temple’s tourist area.
To increase appeal, Gistang said the managers are introducing various new programmes, one of which is Pasar Medang featuring a variety of local cuisine resulting from collaborations with local micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM).
Tourists, according to him, can also enjoy traditional entertainment held in the temple area or in Kampung Seni Borobudur.
Furthermore, to support tourist mobility, he said the managers are partnering with eco-friendly transport providers such as scooter and bicycle rentals, which can be used by visitors to tour the temple outside the core zone.
On Sunday (22/3) or H+1 Eid 2026, the number of visitors to Borobudur Temple reached 7,900 people. And on Monday or H+2 Eid, by 13:00 WIB, 7,500 tourists had visited the temple built in the 8th and 9th centuries AD.
“It is estimated to exceed 10,000 visitors until ticket counter closure at 17:30 WIB,” said Gistang.
From data obtained by TWC, he said the visit trend continues to increase. The peak visit is predicted to occur during the period of 22 to 24 March 2026, in line with increased public mobility during the holiday.
On regular days, according to him, the highest number of tourist visits to Borobudur Temple is around 3,000 visitors.
