TV crime shows traumatize masses
TV crime shows traumatize masses
From Kompas
Various criminal reports have been aired by local TV stations,
which are still within proper limits. But when the programs
present reenactments of some crimes, many viewers find it
difficult to wipe from their memories.
Some people cannot forget the disturbing criminal acts their
whole life, others become traumatized and others develop an
obsession and become "copycat" criminals after what they have
seen on TV.
Criminal news on TV should therefore be designed in such a way
that it will deter perpetrators and educate TV audiences, by
airing the punishment imposed on the culprits and/or their
endeavors to restore their normal life.
This is, in fact, a big assignment for the criminal report
section of the stations, because however small the stories are of
crime on TV, they have some impact on certain groups of viewers.
