Turkish Foreign Minister: Israel Poses Direct Threat to Global Security

Geneva/Istanbul - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Israel is now posing a “direct threat to global security”.

Referring to the Iran war, which began with US and Israeli attacks on the Islamic republic, Fidan said the conflict has delivered a “heavy blow to global prosperity, security, and stability.”

“Israel’s systemic threat to destabilise the region has exceeded local boundaries and is now a direct threat to global security,” he said while speaking at the University of Oxford during an official visit to the UK on Friday (24/4).

For this reason, he called for a collective response from the international community, noting that “the difference between regional and global crises has truly disappeared”.

According to him, the uncertainty caused by the conflict has heightened the relevance of middle powers—which he described as countries with “strategic geographical positions,” diplomatic reach, and the political will to build.

Fidan warned that unresolved disputes must be viewed as structural sources of instability and time bombs ready to explode, thus requiring long-term solutions to address regional tensions.

He also called for global institutional reforms and a regional order in the Middle East based on cooperation rather than “domination or submission”.

Fidan added that the current geopolitical changes can no longer be managed through old assumptions or “autopilot” approaches, as that era has ended.

In his view, this is no longer a question of whether the old order is obsolete, but who will shape the emerging order and under what conditions, expressing confidence that a peaceful and prosperous future can still be achieved.
