Interior Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of General (Retired) Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth Vice President. Try Sutrisno passed away on Monday morning (2 March) at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta, at the age of 90.

“I offer my sincerest condolences for the passing of the deceased,” said Interior Minister Tito Karnavian in an official statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Tito prayed that all the deceased’s dedication and good deeds be accepted by Almighty God. He also hoped that the bereaved family would be given strength to face this difficult time.

News of Try Sutrisno’s death was previously announced by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. According to Prasetyo, Indonesia has lost one of its leading figures who consistently dedicated his life to the nation’s progress.

General (Retired) Try Sutrisno served as Vice President of Indonesia during the 1993–1998 period, alongside President Soekarno. Previously, he also served as Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI).

“Regarding the news of the passing of Vice President General (Retired) Try Sutrisno, we certainly feel very deep sorrow. He was one of Indonesia’s finest sons who dedicated himself and devoted his entire life to the nation and state,” said the State Secretary to journalists.

Prasetyo then called on all Indonesians to offer their final respects through prayers for the deceased. He noted that Try Sutrisno’s passing during the holy month of Ramadan carries profound significance.

“Let us pray that he be forgiven for all his sins and wrongdoings, that all his deeds be accepted, and especially that he has been called to meet Allah the Almighty during the holy month of Ramadan,” added Prasetyo.

The government hopes that the values of integrity and exemplary leadership left behind by the late Try Sutrisno can serve as inspiration for future generations of the nation in safeguarding the unity and cohesion of the Indonesian state.
