Try Sutrisno Deceased, Half-Mast Flag Raised
The Government has instructed the raising of the Red and White flag at half-mast for three days as a mark of respect for the death of the sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, General (Retd.) Try Sutrisno. This policy applies from 2 to 4 March 2026 throughout all regions of Indonesia.
Try Sutrisno died on Monday, 2 March 2026, at 06:58 WIB at the Central Military Hospital (RSPAD) Gatot Soebroto, Jakarta, at the age of 90. The Government has established a period of national mourning as a mark of respect for the services and dedication of the deceased to the nation and state.
The instruction to lower the flag to half-mast was conveyed by the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi through Letter Number: B-02/M/S/TU.00.00/03/2026. The letter was addressed to the leaders of state institutions, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, the ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, the Attorney General, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police Chief (Kapolri), the leaders of non-ministerial state institutions and non-structural agencies, regional heads throughout Indonesia, the heads of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Regionally-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), as well as the heads of Indonesian representations abroad.
“It is requested to lower the State Flag to half-mast throughout all corners of the nation for three consecutive days commencing 2-4 March 2026,” said the Minister of State Secretary in the letter.
In addition to the instruction to lower the flag, the Government has also established the period from 2 to 4 March 2026 as a National Day of Mourning. The policy of lowering the flag to half-mast is a form of state tribute to national figures who have rendered great services in the conduct of Indonesian government and defence. Try Sutrisno was known as a high-ranking TNI officer who previously served as Commander of ABRI before becoming Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period 1993–1998. The Government has appealed to all government institutions, state agencies, and the public to participate in lowering the flag to half-mast in accordance with the regulations during the period of national mourning.
