Try Sutrisno Championed Fifth Amendment to the 1945 Constitution Until His Final Days
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), stated that the late former Vice President Try Sutrisno remained committed to championing a fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution until the end of his life.
“He once spoke to us during last year’s Eid celebration, expressing his wish that before his passing, there would be a fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution, and he wanted this to be completed before he died,” said Ahmad Muzani following the funeral prayer held at Sunda Kelapa Mosque in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday.
According to Muzani, this request was evidence that Try Sutrisno, in his advanced years, consistently sought to give his best to the nation and country.
Through the fifth amendment to the 1945 Constitution, Muzani said, Try Sutrisno believed Indonesia would become a stronger and more unified nation.
“He wanted the amendment to be implemented to maintain unity, to preserve togetherness and to ensure Indonesia’s better future,” Muzani explained.
“Until now, what was expected and what the late former Vice President envisioned, the People’s Consultative Assembly continues to work on through further studies and research,” Muzani clarified.
