Trump's Push Against Iran: US National Counterterrorism Centre Director Resigns
The head of the United States National Counterterrorism Centre, Joe Kent, has resigned due to the US-Israel conflict with Iran.
“With a clear conscience, I cannot support the ongoing war against Iran,” Kent wrote in a letter to Donald Trump posted on X.
“Iran does not pose a direct threat to our nation, and it is evident that we initiated this war due to pressure from Israel and powerful American lobbying interests.”
Previously, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his country would not send troops to participate in a war against Iran, following President Trump’s request to allies to help form a coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
“The Polish Government has no plans for any military expedition to Iran, and this raises no concerns from our allies,” Tusk said before a government meeting.
He stated this includes Polish land, air, and naval forces, which continue to be developed in response to the border conflict in Ukraine.
The European Union, Germany, and the United Kingdom have collectively rejected the US request to send forces to the Strait of Hormuz, focusing instead on diplomacy to prevent spikes in global oil prices.
Iran has expressed its willingness to end the war if three key conditions are met by the United States. The nation intends to break the cycle of war-negotiation-ceasefire-war that has characterised its conflicts. According to Iran’s perspective, so long as they do not lose, they prevail.
