Trump Responds to Iranian Attack on Israel
US President Donald Trump has reportedly provided a swift response following reports of Iran attacking Israel. Trump is said to have called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge him not to retaliates against the Iranian missile strikes.
“I will call Bibi now and tell him not to retaliate,” Trump said, as quoted by Axios journalist Barak Ravid in a telephone interview, using the Israeli leader’s nickname, as reported by AFP on Monday (8/6/2026).
“Each of them is having their fun. Israel carried out its attack and Iran also carried out its attack. We do not need any more attacks,” he explained, as posted by Ravid on X.
Sunday’s missile attack was the first carried out by Iran against Israel since a ceasefire was implemented in April during the Middle East war. Trump voiced concerns that the incident could hinder ongoing negotiations.
“Iran’s attack did not hurt anyone. Hopefully, Israel will not retaliate. If Bibi strikes back, then this will continue to happen like the last 47 years, or the last 3,000 years,” the US President stated.
“We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It will be a good deal. I do not want that deal to explode because of what is happening right now,” he added.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described Sunday’s attack as a “warning” after Israel struck the southern outskirts of Beirut, Lebanon, the previous day, threatening wider attacks if aggression continues.
The ceasefire on 8 April had halted major hostilities between Iran, Israel, and the United States. However, efforts to transition the ceasefire into a permanent resolution have repeatedly stalled, and Sunday’s launch is certain to diminish hopes for lasting peace as the conflict reaches its 100th day.
In a separate interview with Fox News, Trump stated that the Iranian attack would not assist negotiations, which are “very close” to reaching an agreement. He urged Iran to “return to the negotiating table and make a deal.”
“We are already very close. I believe the agreement will be signed on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of next week. And now this happens,” he said.
Trump also criticised Israel’s strike in Beirut on Sunday, stating he was “not happy with it.” The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment from AFP.
Meanwhile, in the latest updates, Iranian state television reported on attacks occurring within the country. It was reported that explosions occurred in three cities on Monday morning.
“Several explosions were heard in Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan,” the state television wrote on Telegram, as reported by AFP.
