Trump reaffirms Iran war progressing much faster than scheduled
Washington (ANTARA) - United States President Donald Trump on Thursday (26/3) reaffirmed the four-to-six-week timeframe he claimed was set at the outset of the war against Iran, which is now entering its fourth week without clear signs of an end.
In a meeting at the White House, Trump restated that they had estimated the operation would take four to six weeks to achieve its mission.
“If you look at what we have done in terms of destroying that country, I mean, we are far faster. After 26 days, we are really much faster than schedule,” said Trump.
Meanwhile, Trump denied reports suggesting he was very keen to end the war through diplomacy, stating instead that it was Iran that had taken steps to restart talks and it was up to Iran to convince Trump to halt the attacks.
“They are begging to reach a deal,” Trump said.
Trump has informed his allies that he wants this war to end in the coming weeks, according to a Thursday report by The Wall Street Journal.
A CNN report on Wednesday (25/3) stated that the White House is attempting to arrange a meeting in Pakistan this weekend to discuss a way out to end the war.
The US and Israel began large-scale airstrikes against Iran on 28 February, disrupting global shipping, causing oil prices to surge, and shaking the global economy.
