Trump in White House Office During Shooting Incident at Presidential Residence
The incident occurred on Saturday 23 May at 1800 hours local time. A man initially approached a checkpoint outside the White House complex and began firing at Secret Service officers. Secret Service agents then returned fire towards the assailant. The gunfire successfully incapacitated the attacker, who subsequently died at hospital.
“During the shooting, a civilian was also struck by gunfire. It remains unclear whether the civilian was hit by the initial shots from the suspect or during the subsequent exchange of fire,” said the Secret Service spokesperson, citing CNN International on Sunday 24 May 2026.
The Secret Service stated that Trump had been informed about the shooting near the White House. The incident did not affect Trump’s work. “Secret Service personnel were not injured and President Donald Trump was in the residence and remained unaffected,” said the Secret Service spokesperson.
Trump was briefed on the incident by Secret Service, according to a White House official. Trump and his team were engaged in efforts to conclude negotiations aimed at ending the conflict with Iran. Before the shooting incident occurred, Trump stated that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran was drawing closer.
Trump made this statement during a telephone interview with CBS News. Trump declined to provide specific details about the agreement, but said that “every day it’s getting better and better.”
“I can’t tell you before I tell them, can I?” Trump told CBS News.
