US President Donald Trump has once again claimed victory in the armed conflict against Iran. Although stating that the war has ended, Trump has left open the possibility of continuing attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure if the ongoing peace negotiations fail to yield results.

In his statement from the Oval Office, Trump emphasised US military dominance over Iran, which he described as powerless. He also criticised media reporting that he believes continues to inflame the situation.

“You know, I don’t like saying this, we’ve won this because the war has been won; the only ones who like to keep it going are the fake news,” Trump said while commenting on media coverage of the conflict.

Trump described the military power imbalance between the two countries as proof of his victory. He highlighted Iran’s paralysed defences under pressure from the US combat fleet.

“We’re not winning a war where they have no navy, they have no air force, and they have nothing, while we actually have planes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country,” the President continued.

He even issued a stark warning that the US has full capability to cripple vital targets whenever desired. “For example, if I wanted to take down that power plant, that very large and powerful power plant, they couldn’t do anything about it,” he asserted.

Trump’s rhetoric regarding the end of the war has been observed to shift continuously in recent weeks. Previously, he had threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened by Monday night.

However, on Monday morning, Trump cancelled that threat. He revealed that the US and Iran had engaged in “productive conversations” and decided to postpone attacks on Iran’s energy sites for five days to allow room for negotiations.

Interestingly, Trump disclosed differences in views within his government regarding the ceasefire option. He mentioned that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine actually preferred resolution through military means.

“Pete doesn’t want this resolved through a deal,” Trump revealed. He added that Hegseth and Caine were “two people quite disappointed” with the prospect of negotiations.

Nevertheless, Trump praised the hardline stance of his two military officials as a good attitude. “They’re not interested in resolution. They’re interested in winning this completely,” Trump concluded. (CNN/Z-2)
