World oil prices have surged beyond $100 per barrel, or approximately Rp 1,650,000 per barrel, amid the conflict between the United States and Iran, triggering widespread concerns across global markets.

However, US President Donald Trump stated that the war is expected to end soon, which he believes will alleviate pressure on global energy prices.

Trump made the statement during a press conference in Miami on Monday, 9 March 2026. He said the conflict, which has been ongoing for several days, has shown significant progress on the ground.

“We are making great progress in accomplishing our military objectives,” Trump said, nine days after launching the war against Iran alongside Israel on 28 February 2026, according to CNBC.

World oil prices had previously surged sharply over the previous weekend, surpassing $100 per barrel. The increase triggered turmoil in global financial markets as investors feared the conflict would disrupt global energy supplies.

“We have destroyed every Iranian military force very thoroughly,” Trump stated.

He claimed that US military forces have destroyed dozens of Iranian naval vessels. Additionally, he asserted that Iran’s air force and air defence systems are no longer functional following the attacks.

“They no longer have leadership. Everything has been destroyed,” he added.

When asked whether the war would end within the week, Trump said that would not happen so quickly. However, he affirmed that the conflict would end “as soon as possible”.

Trump also stated that the United States still has the option to conduct additional military operations if necessary. He noted that the US has not yet struck several important targets in Iran, including the country’s electrical infrastructure.

Matt Smith, an oil analyst from energy consulting firm Kpler, said that currently few commercial vessels dare to transit through the strait.

Despite these threats, Trump remained optimistic that global oil supply would be safer in the long term because of the war. He also warned Iran against withholding oil supplies from the global market.

“We will strike them so hard that it will be impossible for them or anyone helping them to recover the region,” Trump said.
