Trump Cancels Trip to Pakistan for Negotiations with Iran, The Reason is This
US President Donald Trump has cancelled the trip by Witkoff and Kushner to Pakistan. The trip was originally intended for Trump to go to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet parties for negotiations.
This was confirmed directly by Trump in a post on Truth Social, quoted on Sunday (26/4/2026).
“Too much time wasted on the trip, too much work! Additionally, there is tremendous internal discord and confusion within their ‘leadership’,” Trump wrote. “No one knows who is in charge, including themselves. Moreover, we hold all the cards, they have nothing! If they want to talk, all they need to do is pick up the phone!!!” Trump explained.
This comes after news that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad following a meeting with Pakistani officials. Araghchi had previously stated that no meeting with the US was planned in Islamabad.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has left Islamabad after meeting with Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
This appears to confirm that Araghchi will not meet with the US delegation for peace talks in the city. US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were expected to lead the US delegation in Pakistan today.
In a post on X, Araghchi said that he had a “fruitful” visit to Pakistan, while adding that he “still needs to see if the US is truly serious about diplomacy.”
