Trump Assures No More Israeli Attacks on Iran's South Pars Gas Field
Trump has promised to stop Israel from attacking South Pars again, the world’s largest gas field in Iran. Trump claimed that the United States (US) was unaware of the attack.
“Israel, angry about what happened in the Middle East, has strongly attacked the major South Pars Gas Field facility in Iran,” Trump wrote on X on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, Iran was unaware of this fact and unfairly attacked some of Qatar’s LNG facilities. THERE WILL BE NO MORE ATTACKS BY ISRAEL on this South Pars field unless Iran foolishly attacks innocent Qatar,” he said.
“If that happens, the United States, with or without Israel’s help, will destroy the entire South Pars gas field with a force that Iran has never seen before.”
Previously, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had approved Israel’s plan to attack the Iranian gas field. South Pars is Iran’s portion of the world’s largest natural gas reserve, shared with Qatar, a close US ally and host of the largest US military base in the Gulf.
Quoted from Reuters on Thursday (19/3/2026), the attack on Wednesday against the large South Pars gas field caused oil prices to rise and prompted threats from Iran to attack oil and gas facilities across the Gulf, while firing missiles at Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
This escalation further disrupts already shaky global energy supplies, increasing political pressure on Trump, who joined Israel in attacking Iran nearly four weeks ago.
Qatar’s state-owned oil company, QatarEnergy, reported “extensive damage” after Iranian missiles hit Ras Laffan Industrial City, which processes about one-fifth of the world’s gas supply.
