Trump asks Netanyahu not to attack Iran's oil and gas fields anymore
Washington (ANTARA) - US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (19/3) that he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack Iran’s oil and gas fields any longer. “Yes, I have warned him (Netanyahu) not to do that, and he will not do it,” Trump told reporters. Trump also said that he remains on good terms with the Israeli leader. Previously, on Wednesday (18/3), the Tasnim news agency reported that Israel and the United States had attacked energy facilities in Iran’s South Pars gas field, the largest in the country, and the Asaluyeh industrial zone, where gas is processed. Fires were reported in Asaluyeh after storage tanks and processing facilities were hit by the attack. Trump said on the same day that the United States was unaware of Israel’s plans for the attack. The US and Israel began attacks in Iran on 28 February, causing damage and numerous civilian casualties, as well as killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran then carried out retaliatory strikes in Israeli territory, as well as on several US military targets in the Middle East. The attacks, described by the US and Israel as necessary preemptive actions against perceived threats from Iran’s nuclear programme, soon clarified a desire to see a change in Iran’s regime.
