Trump Appoints Tech Billionaires to Counter China
US President Donald Trump has appointed several global technology giants’ bosses to a strategic advisory council. Prominent names include Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Oracle executive Larry Ellison. Google co-founder Sergey Brin and AMD CEO Lisa Su are also part of the initial group of 13 industry members appointed to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). This step signals that the US is drawing closer to technology giants in facing global competition, especially with China in the AI sector, as quoted from TechCrunch on Thursday (26/3/2026). Since the beginning of their terms, Trump has made AI a top priority. He has even directly ordered the preparation of an “AI Action Plan” aimed at reducing regulatory barriers and accelerating private-sector innovation. The White House states that the number of council members could increase to 24 people in the near future. The council will be led by David Sacks and Michael Kratsios. Zuckerberg and Nvidia state that this council will help strengthen the United States’ position in the field of AI, while Oracle declined to comment. Alphabet and AMD have not yet responded. CEO and co-founder of Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Bob Mumgaard, has also joined the council. The company describes its participation as a strong signal of US government support for the fusion industry. Artificial intelligence is now the main driver of investment in the US, with companies promising investments of up to trillions of dollars in the coming years amid the Trump administration’s push to accelerate growth in this sector.
