Trump and Xi Jinping to Meet Soon to Discuss Iran Conflict and Trade Tariffs
Beijing — The leaders of the United States and China are planning to meet to discuss developments regarding the Iran conflict and trade tariffs.
Wang Yi, China’s top diplomat, explained the benefits of engaging with the US and suggested that preparations are underway between the two national leaders.
“High-level exchange agendas are already on the negotiating table,” he said, according to CNBC on Monday 9 March 2026.
“What both sides need to do now is carry out thorough preparation, create a suitable environment, manage existing risks, and eliminate unnecessary disruptions,” he added.
“Falling into conflict or confrontation will only drag the entire world down,” he stated.
Following a face-to-face meeting in South Korea in autumn, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have indicated plans to visit each other’s countries.
Trump is scheduled to visit China from 31 March to 2 April 2026.
It is worth noting that this would be the first visit by a sitting US president to China since 2017.
However, the Chinese government has not yet confirmed the exact date of President Donald Trump’s visit.
Wang also did not provide further explanation, but noted that high-level interactions between the US and Chinese presidents have provided important strategic protection for China-US relations to improve and advance.
Furthermore, Wang did not mention the names of the two individuals in his statement to the press on Sunday morning, but reiterated Beijing’s call for a ceasefire in the Iran conflict.
“This is a war that should not have happened,” he said. “This is a war that benefits no one,” he stated.
