The government has enforced operational restrictions on goods vehicles during the Eid al-Fitr mudik and return period in 2026. Vehicles with three or more axles are prohibited from passing from 13 March 2026 to 29 March 2026 to support smooth traffic flow.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi also urged the public to avoid peak return periods predicted for 24, 28, and 29 March 2026.

“Based on calculations from JMTC, the peak return flow is expected on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, with an estimated volume of over 285,000 vehicles. This number is larger than the mudik peak on 18 March 2026, which was 270,315 vehicles,” said Dudy, quoted from an official statement on Monday (23/03/2026).

Therefore, the government advises the public to return to Jabotabek on 23 March 2026 by utilising collective leave, or during 25-27 March 2025 by taking advantage of the Work From Anywhere period.

In line with this, National Police Traffic Corps Chief Agus Suryonugroho mentioned three peak return periods that mudik travellers need to anticipate.

“We predict those three days will be the peak return flow for Eid 2026. We urge the public to avoid those peak return times so that mudik services run safely, comfortably, and securely,” said Agus.

Meanwhile, PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk President Director Rivan A. Purwantono invited the public to plan their journeys better, including utilising toll fare incentives.

“We also remind mudik travellers to take advantage of the 30 percent toll discount during the return period for two days, namely 26-27 March 2026, on nine Jasa Marga Group toll roads for continuous journeys,” said Rivan.

“The aim is the same as recommended by the Transport Minister and National Police Traffic Corps Chief, namely to control the distribution of return traffic volume and provide a more comfortable journey for the public,” explained Rivan.

In facing the return flow, Jasa Marga is strengthening services on main toll roads by optimising toll gates, preparing service fleets, and conducting situational traffic management.

The public is advised to ensure vehicle and driver conditions are optimal, get sufficient rest at rest areas, and confirm adequate fuel and electronic money balance before entering toll roads.
