Trucker prosecuted for illegal logs
BENGKULU: Prosecutor R. Radjagukguk has demanded eight months
in jail and a fine of Rp 250,000 for Ali, 26, a truck driver who
was arrested for transporting illegal timber last October.
The prosecution was unveiled before a panel of judges presided
by Andi Budiman. The prosecutor believed Ali violated Law No.
41/1999 on forestry.
It was learnt during the trial that local police stopped Ali
on Thursday Oct. 11, 2001, in Seluma, South Bengkulu regency
while he was transporting six cubic meters of illegally processed
timber aboard his truck.
The police arrested him for his failure to show the necessary
documents for the timber. He told police he was carrying the
timber from Padang Capong, South Bengkulu to Bengkulu city, where
it would be delivered to a sawmill owned by someone identified as
"Ded" in Teluk Segara district.
The court has been adjourned until December 10 to hear the
judges' verdict.
