Trucker prosecuted for illegal logs<\/p>\n
BENGKULU: Prosecutor R. Radjagukguk has demanded eight months
\nin jail and a fine of Rp 250,000 for Ali, 26, a truck driver who
\nwas arrested for transporting illegal timber last October.<\/p>\n
The prosecution was unveiled before a panel of judges presided
\nby Andi Budiman. The prosecutor believed Ali violated Law No.
\n41\/1999 on forestry.<\/p>\n
It was learnt during the trial that local police stopped Ali
\non Thursday Oct. 11, 2001, in Seluma, South Bengkulu regency
\nwhile he was transporting six cubic meters of illegally processed
\ntimber aboard his truck.<\/p>\n
The police arrested him for his failure to show the necessary
\ndocuments for the timber. He told police he was carrying the
\ntimber from Padang Capong, South Bengkulu to Bengkulu city, where
\nit would be delivered to a sawmill owned by someone identified as
\n"Ded" in Teluk Segara district.<\/p>\n
The court has been adjourned until December 10 to hear the
\njudges' verdict.<\/p>",
