One container truck got stuck in the Pramuka underpass, East Jakarta. Police say the container got stuck because the driver did not understand Jakarta’s road conditions. AKP Darwis Yunarta, head of the Gakkum unit of the Jakarta Timur Metropolitan Police’s Traffic Police, said the driver originated from outside Jakarta and claimed to only follow directions via a navigational app. ‘Driver from the region, doesn’t understand Jakarta. (He says) using the maps application,’ Darwis said when asked for confirmation on Saturday, 7 March 2026. ‘On maps there are no (directions) for trucks, only for cars and motorcycles; he doesn’t understand,’ he continued. However, Darwis noted there are signs indicating the vehicle height limit before the underpass. He suspects the driver did not notice the sign. ‘Yes, there is a height limit. Every driver should know how tall the vehicle I drive is, should know,’ he said. ‘He doesn’t understand what height it is. That’s why the driver’s job is to know the class of road, yes,’ he added. Nevertheless, Darwis said the container truck has now been evacuated. The evacuation took about three hours. ‘It’s moving now, it’s finished, about three hours ago the evacuation process,’ he explained. Darwis explained that in principle the truck could be evacuated by being pulled backward. However, during the evacuation, the truck’s engine did not function, so they waited for a mechanic. ‘Yes it stalled, they wanted to start it but the battery had problems. The time taken there,’ he added. Although traffic congestion occurred, Darwis said the truck has now been evacuated. The authorities remain on standby to ensure smooth traffic flow. ‘Yes, there was a slowdown earlier. Now it can reverse,’ he concluded.
