Trisakti and foundation to create law program
JAKARTA (JP): Trisakti University and Winaya Dharma Foundation/Institute of Business Law Studies agreed yesterday to cooperate to improve education in economic and international business law.
The agreement was signed by the foundation's chairperson, C.F.G. Sunaryati Hartono, and Trisakti University's rector, R. Moedanton Moertedjo.
The signing formalized the creation of a certificate program for students with an undergraduate degree in law who intend to specialize in economics or international business law.
Established on Sept. 27, 1996 by Forum Indonesia-Nederland, Winaya Dharma is devoted to legal research and education, particularly on economic and international business law, promoting intellectual exchanges with other legal bodies and providing information, research opportunities and scholarships.
Former finance minister Radius Prawiro is chairman of Winaya Dharma's advisory board.
The foundation set up the Institute of Business Law Studies on Feb. 7, 1997, to offer a comprehensive program in economic and international business law.
The institute offers 28 courses, divided into eight modules. Those who complete at least six modules will receive a certificate of proficiency in economic and international business law. Trisakti University will provide logistical necessities for the course.
The Foundation has obtained assistance and cooperation from the University of Indonesia's school of law, Atma Jaya University, Leiden University of the Netherlands, Centre for International Legal Cooperation and the Economic Law and Improved Procurement System Project of Jakarta.
"The program is partly intended to prepare Indonesian students to deal with a broad range of corporate cases and international legal issues, such as foreign arbitral awards, and working professionally with foreign lawyers in Indonesia," Sunaryati Hartono said.
The program's courses include maritime law, energy and mining law, environmental law, computer and telecommunications law, intellectual property law and insurance law.
Minister of Justice Oetojo Oesman has approved the program and intends to work with the foundation to improve the judiciary's education. (40)
