The trend of selling gold at various shops in Jakarta is increasing ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. People are reportedly selling everything from jewellery to gold bullion.

According to Antara on Friday (20/3/2026), Juwita, one of the owners of Bukit Emas Shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, Jakarta, said the trend of gold sales began to feel noticeable about two weeks before Eid. She noted that the number of sellers coming in is increasing daily as the holiday approaches.

“Quite a lot of people come to sell gold jewellery. It seems like it started getting busy two weeks before Eid,” said Juwita.

She stated that this increase is considerably busier compared to ordinary days because many people utilise gold as an asset that can be liquidated to meet needs ahead of Eid. According to her, the Eid moment is often used by people to sell gold jewellery for various purposes, including shopping for Eid necessities and preparations for events after Eid, such as wedding plans or other activities.

“This is the Eid moment, so people definitely want to use it for shopping and such. Then, usually, after Eid moments, it’s said to be good for marriages or whatever, so it’s quite busy (with people selling gold),” she explained.

The types of gold being sold are varied, ranging from jewellery such as rings, bracelets, and necklaces, to gold bullion which is also sold by some people to gold shops. In one day, Juwita estimates there are around four to five people coming to sell their gold, with the trend continuing to rise as the holiday nears.

She views this phenomenon as a routine occurrence every year, especially ahead of Eid, where people tend to utilise gold as an easily liquidated financial reserve. “In moments like Eid, it’s routine (for people to sell gold jewellery), usually like that,” she added.

In agreement with Juwita, Rangga, one of the employees at a gold shop in the Cikini Gold Center area, revealed that the trend of gold sales is increasing ahead of Eid in line with the rising needs of people to fulfil various requirements for the holiday.

In one day, Rangga estimates the number of people coming to sell gold can reach around ten. This number is higher compared to ordinary days outside the pre-Eid period.

“The trend right now is that there are many (residents) selling (gold). It can reach 10 people. Last year, there were many buying,” said Rangga to ANTARA.

According to him, the types of gold sold by people are quite diverse, both in the form of jewellery and gold bullion, which shows the liquidity needs from various segments of society at present.

“Usually, the gold sold is a mix (jewellery and bullion). This has been happening since 10 days before Eid,” clarified Rangga.
