Travellers at Kampung Rambutan Terminal Frequently Complain of Hypertension and High Cholesterol
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Jakarta East Branch has reported that the majority of Eid travellers using health services at Kampung Rambutan Terminal are detected to have hypertension (high blood pressure) and high cholesterol. PMI Jakarta East nurse, Ahmad Zulfikar, explained that travellers who get themselves checked typically complain of severe headaches. This condition is triggered by a lack of rest time due to energy-draining Eid preparation. “Indeed, what we find most here is high blood pressure and cholesterol. So, the high blood pressure we find is around 140 to 150 and above,” said Ahmad, quoted on Saturday (21/3). In addition to fatigue from queuing for tickets and long journeys, Ahmad mentioned that eating patterns during the fasting month also affect the travellers’ health. Lack of white water consumption, infrequent exercise, and high intake of oily foods like fritters are the main triggers for rising cholesterol levels. Besides internal diseases, field medical personnel also handle findings of minor wounds such as scrapes or foot injuries from falls in the terminal area. To ensure the mudik community is in prime condition, PMI has opened free health posts from 13 March 2026 until H+7 Eid. The services available include: These posts are manned by two personnel who routinely record the health history of travellers. “However, there is a possibility that we will mobilise, so we will go around the terminal or other mudik points,” added Ahmad. This service is a form of PMI’s support for the government’s mission to create a safe, comfortable, and healthy mudik atmosphere for all levels of society.
