Jakarta (ANTARA) - Matraman subdistrict in East Jakarta has recorded the highest community-based waste management supply to the processing facility in Ciracas through the trash charity programme.

“Matraman had the highest waste supply to Ciracas, to the Ciracas Plastic Recycling Centre (PDUP). Because Pulogadung has restrictions, we are promoting it through the trash charity programme in mosques and prayer rooms,” said Matraman Subdistrict Head Muhammad Husnul Fauji in East Jakarta on Thursday.

Based on data for non-organic waste supply in the past month, Matraman subdistrict ranks first with 3,349 kilograms.

The next position is Jatinegara subdistrict with 2,784 kilograms of waste, followed by Cipayung with 2,096 kilograms, and Cakung with 1,315 kilograms.

Then, for Ciracas subdistrict with 771 kilograms, Kramat Jati 562 kilograms, Pulo Gadung 489 kilograms, Duren Sawit 385 kilograms, Pasar Rebo 346 kilograms, and Makasar 201 kilograms.

“Not only from the household sector, the waste sorting programme has also been expanded to places of worship. A total of 83 mosques, 21 prayer rooms, one Islamic boarding school, and 43 waste banks have participated in efforts to reduce waste volume,” Husnul revealed.

Husnul stated that the high waste supply from his area is inseparable from the waste dumping restriction policy in the Pulogadung area.

The programme refers to the Circular Letter of the East Jakarta Mayor dated 23 February 2024.

In its implementation, waste that has been sorted by the community is collected through various points, such as mosques, prayer rooms, and Waste Bank Units (BSU) spread across neighbourhood levels.

Subsequently, the waste is directly transported by Environmental Office personnel to the processing facility in Ciracas.

“Alhamdulillah, this programme is running well. The waste is collected directly by the Environmental Office and taken to the PDUP in Ciracas. Even the Mayor has given appreciation because Matraman is considered the highest in waste sorting,” Husnul explained.

In addition, Husnul acknowledged that the storage capacity at that facility is still quite large.

Currently, the volume of waste entering from each area is still around small figures compared to the total capacity.

“The storage in Ciracas is about eight to 10 tonnes, while the supply from each area is still one point something or even zero point something percent. That means there is still great potential to be increased,” Husnul said.

Previously, the East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) encouraged waste sorting from the source, namely households, to reduce the disposal burden at the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantargebang.

“The government is also encouraging the public to start reducing waste volume and carrying out sorting from the source, namely households, to manage disposal at TPST Bantargebang,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjiri at the Mayor’s Office in East Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4).

Munjiri mentioned that his side is collaborating with the Ciracas Plastic Recycling Centre (PDUP) to manage inorganic waste.

In addition, the Waste Bank Task Force in each ward that has been formed through the Mayor’s Circular Letter Number e-0005/SE/2026 is also being optimised in its role.

This task force is responsible for coordinating the delivery of inorganic waste from Waste Bank Units to PDUP Ciracas, as well as reporting activities through the provided online system.

Five subdistricts in East Jakarta (Jaktim) have been connected to the centralised waste storage system at the Main Waste Bank Ciracas, which accommodates inorganic waste from community sorting.

The five subdistricts include Cipayung, Ciracas, Kramat Jati, Pasar Rebo, and Makasar.
