Transportation Expert Reveals Key Factors Driving the Success of Operation Ketupat 2026
The implementation of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming traffic flow has received widespread appreciation from the public. This is reflected in the results of a survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, which showed that 79.8% of respondents felt satisfied with this year’s homecoming organisation. The high satisfaction rate is inseparable from various significant improvements, especially in the aspect of travel safety, which was rated better than the previous year.
Transportation expert from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Sony Sulaksono, revealed that the success of Operation Ketupat 2026 was driven by several important interrelated factors. He assessed that this achievement was the result of collective efforts by various parties that managed the homecoming flow more effectively.
“So 79.8% of the public stated that they rated the organisation better in reducing accident rates. So if we connect it with other conditions, there are several key factors that certainly helped in lowering the accident numbers,” said Sony in an interview on one of the private TV station programmes on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
One of the main factors highlighted is the implementation of more adaptive traffic engineering. According to Sony, the vehicle flow arrangements during this year’s homecoming were no longer static but adjusted to the dynamics of field conditions. This approach proved effective in alleviating congestion more efficiently and minimising accident potential.
In addition, coordination between institutions was also seen to have improved significantly. The synergy between various agencies, from Polri, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing to private parties, ran more solidly from the central to the field level.
“We saw the coordination between institutions during Operation Ketupat 2026; when we reviewed it, it appeared more solid. Even at the central level as well as at the field level. That was very evident,” he said.
Not only that, the presence of various supporting services such as Mudik Posts also made a significant contribution to enhancing the comfort and safety of homecomers. These posts provided various essential facilities, from information services to emergency assistance for road users.
Amid public concerns regarding the fuel oil (BBM) crisis issue, the survey results showed the opposite. As many as 81.7% of respondents stated they were satisfied with the availability of BBM during the homecoming period, so the concerns that had emerged did not prove to have a significant impact.
