Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged holidaymakers to avoid the peak return flow for Lebaran 2026. Travellers are hoped not to congregate during the return flow, which is predicted to occur three times.

The peak return flow for Lebaran is forecasted to fall on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. The peak return flow volume is expected to be higher than the outbound peak.

“Based on calculations from the JMTC, the peak return flow is predicted to fall on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, with an estimated volume of more than 285,000 vehicles. This number is larger than the outbound peak on 18 March 2026, which was 270,315 vehicles. Therefore, we urge the public to return to Jabotabek on 23 March 2026 by utilising collective leave, or during the period of 25-27 March 2026 by taking advantage of the Work From Anywhere period urged by the Government,” said Dudy during an inspection of traffic flow on H+1 Lebaran 2026 at the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC) on Sunday (22/03/2026).

Dudy explained that by avoiding the peak return flow, traffic distribution would be more even. Thus, congestion during the return flow would not occur.

In a separate occasion, National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho stated that there would be three peak return flows that holidaymakers should avoid. The first peak return flow will occur on 24 March 2026, and the second and third on 28 and 29 March 2026.

“We predict those three days will be the peak return flows for Lebaran 2026. We urge the public to avoid those peak return flow times so that the return flow service runs safely, comfortably, and securely,” said Agus.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk Rivan A. Purwantono requested cooperation from road users to utilise return times during the return flow following the Government’s guidance. Holidaymakers are asked to plan their return journeys to reduce traffic density.

“We request and ask all members of the public planning to return home to choose return times as recommended by the Government. We also remind holidaymakers to take advantage of the 30% toll discount during the two-day return flow period, namely on 26-27 March 2026, on 9 Jasa Marga Group toll roads for continuous journeys. The aim is the same as recommended by the Transport Minister and the National Police Traffic Corps Chief, namely to control the distribution of return flow traffic volume and provide a more comfortable journey for the public,” revealed Rivan.

To ensure readiness for return flow services on toll roads, Jasa Marga is strengthening services on several major toll roads by optimising toll gate operations, preparing toll road service fleets, conducting situational traffic management, and ensuring 24-hour field officer readiness.

In addition, technology optimisation through the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC) continues to monitor real-time traffic conditions and support quick and accurate decision-making, supported by information dissemination via the Travoy App, Call Center 133, and Travoy FM Radio to help road users plan their journeys better.

The Ministry of Transport, National Police Traffic Corps, and Jasa Marga also urge drivers of vehicles with three or more axles to comply with the Joint Decree (SKB) of the Director General of Land Transport of the Ministry of Transport, National Police Traffic Corps Chief, and Director General of Highway Development of the Ministry of Public Works dated 5 February 2026. The provisions regulate road traffic and crossings during the Lebaran 2026/1447H outbound and return flow period regarding restrictions on goods vehicle operations, including not passing during the specified times, namely the period of 13-29 March 2026.
