Transport Minister Urges Travellers to Avoid Peak Return Traffic During 2026 Eid
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged returnees to avoid the peak Eid return traffic on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. “To that end, we urge the public to return to Jabotabek on 23 March 2026 by utilising the joint leave, or during the period of 25-27 March 2026 by taking advantage of the government’s Work From Anywhere advisory,” he stated in a press release in Jakarta on Sunday. Based on calculations from the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC), the peak return flow is predicted to occur on Tuesday (24/3), with an estimated volume of more than 285,000 vehicles. This figure is larger than the peak outbound flow on 18 March 2026, which was 270,315 vehicles. In a separate occasion, the National Traffic Police Corps Chief Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho stated that there will be three peak return flows that returnees should avoid. The first peak return flow will occur on 24 March 2026, and the second and third peaks on 28 and 29 March 2026. “We predict that those three days will be the peak return flows for Eid 2026. We urge the public to avoid those peak return times so that the outbound flow services run safely, comfortably, and securely,” he said. “We request and ask all members of the public planning to return home to choose the recommended return times advised by the government,” he added. His side also reminded returnees to take advantage of the 30 percent toll discount during the return flow period for two days, namely on 26-27 March 2026 on nine Jasa Marga Group toll roads for continuous journeys. “The aim is the same as recommended by the Transport Minister and the National Traffic Police Corps Chief, namely to control the distribution of return traffic volume and provide a more comfortable journey for the public,” he said. In ensuring readiness for return flow services on Jasa Marga Group toll roads, Jasa Marga is strengthening services on several major toll routes by optimising toll gate operations, preparing toll road service fleets, conducting situational traffic management, and ensuring field personnel readiness 24 hours a day. Optimisation of technology through the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC) continues to monitor traffic conditions in real-time and support quick and accurate decision-making, supported by information dissemination through the Travoy App, Call Center 133, and Travoy FM Radio to help road users plan their journeys better.
