Transport Minister Urges Homebound Travellers Not to Overexert Themselves While Driving
Jakarta — Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has urged homebound travellers not to overexert themselves whilst driving during the Eid 1447 Hijriah homecoming period, whilst encouraging them to make use of rest stops to maintain safety on the road during the exodus.
The Transport Minister asked travellers not to push themselves when fatigued and to utilise rest facilities including mosques to preserve their stamina during long-distance journeys.
“We urge the public to take advantage of mosques that can be used as rest areas. In addition to being able to worship, people can also rest before continuing their journey home,” said the Transport Minister in Jakarta on Monday.
Ahead of the projected peak Eid 1447 Hijriah exodus expected on 18 March, the Transport Minister revealed that he had travelled along the North Coast highway route by road on Saturday (14 March) through the early hours of Sunday (15 March).
Dudy acknowledged that mosques along the North Coast highway route play an important role as places of worship, rest stops, and facilities for travellers to recover physically before resuming their journey.
“We want to ensure that supporting facilities for the homecoming journey, including mosques that frequently serve as stopping points, are in good condition and ready to serve the public,” said the Transport Minister.
The mosques visited included the Jami Nurul Muqorobin Mosque in Subang Regency and the Jami An-Nur Mosque in Karawang.
