Transport Minister Inspects Mosques Ahead of Eid Travel Period 2026
JAKARTA – Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has begun traversing the Northern Coast Highway (Pantura) by road to assess preparations for the 2026 Eid transport period.
During the inspection, the Transport Minister visited and directly examined traffic flow conditions and pilgrim-friendly mosques that can be utilised as rest areas for travellers.
Dudy assessed that mosques along the Pantura highway play an important role as places of worship, rest, and physical recuperation for travellers before they continue their journeys.
“We want to ensure that facilities supporting homebound travel, including mosques which often serve as stopping points, are in good condition and ready to serve the public,” Dudy stated in an official statement on Sunday (15 March 2026).
The mosques visited included the Jamie Nurul Muqorobin Mosque in Subang District and the Jami An-Nur Mosque in Karawang.
The use of mosques as rest areas for travellers is the result of coordination between the Transport Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry.
“In total, 6,859 mosques spread across the entire territory of Indonesia have been prepared to support this initiative,” he said.
“We encourage the public to utilise mosques that can serve as rest areas. In addition to being able to worship, the public can also rest before continuing their journey home,” he added.
“Our hope is that with this programme, safety during the Eid transport period will further improve,” Dudy emphasised.
