Transport Minister: Five Sea Crossing Routes Prepared for Java-Sumatra Transit
Bandarlampung, Lampung — Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said his ministry has worked with relevant parties to prepare five sea crossing routes to facilitate Java-Sumatra transit during the 2026 Lebaran holiday transport period.
Speaking in Bandarlampung, Lampung, on Tuesday, Dudy said the five sea crossing routes are: Merak Port to Bakauheni Port, Ciwandan Port to PT Wijaya Karya Beton Port, and Ciwandan Port to Bakauheni Port.
"Then, BBJ Bojonegoro Port to BBJ Muara Pilu, and from PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port to Panjang Port," he said.
He urged all operators to prepare services as they had done in previous periods, namely during Christmas, New Year, and Lebaran transport seasons.
"With these arrangements, we hope to serve the public well. We have already asked BBJ Port to prepare 12 ships to transport large vehicles, and Ciwandan Port has also prepared 12 ships to transport passengers wishing to cross," he said.
He explained that to improve the flow of homebound travellers during the 2026 Lebaran transport period, a queuing system would also be implemented at Bakauheni Port, spread across 10 toll road and arterial road points in the surrounding area.
"We are preparing to assist with all readiness measures to ensure smooth crossings. BBJ Bojonegara Port will serve large trucks of categories VIII and IX, Bakauheni Port has been prepared without vehicle diversion, and Krakatau Bandar Samudera Port has been prepared as a contingency measure," he added.
Overall, for the 2026 Lebaran sea transport period, 829 ships are available with a capacity of 3.26 million passengers, supported by 636 sea ports.
For land transport, 31,345 buses are available with a capacity of 1.2 million seats, supported by 115 Type A terminals and 62 Type B terminals.
For ferry transport, 255 vessels are available with a capacity of 6.1 million passengers and 770,000 vehicles, supported by 15 crossing routes and 29 ports.
For air transport, 392 aircraft are available with a capacity of 8.2 million passengers, supported by 257 airports. For rail transport, 3,821 units are available with intercity capacity of 3.58 million passengers, regional capacity of 2.9 million passengers, and commuter capacity of 51.5 million passengers, supported by 668 railway stations.
