Transport Minister Emphasises Safety as Bekasi Timur Station Reopens
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi emphasised safety aspects as the primary priority during the reopening of Bekasi Timur Station and the operation of electric rail train (KRL) services following the KRL accident incident with the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train. “The most important thing that must be noted is the safety aspect,” said the Minister during a press conference at Bekasi Timur Station, as followed online in Jakarta on Wednesday. He emphasised that safety is the primary priority in every stage of operational recovery, so all processes are carried out carefully without haste to ensure the security of rail transport service users. According to him, safety must be the main focus in every evaluation and reactivation process of KRL services on that line. In addition, he asked PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to ensure all safety aspects are met along with the reopening of normal KRL operations at Bekasi Timur Station. He also affirmed that the incident involving the Commuter Line train and the long-distance train must become a momentum for comprehensive evaluation for all stakeholders. He stated that transportation services do not only focus on comfort but must also guarantee the security and safety of passengers as the primary priority. On the other hand, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) stated that KRL services on the Bekasi–Cikarang line have resumed normal operations serving passengers, along with the reopening of Bekasi Timur Station after the recovery process following the incident on Monday (27/4) night. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the reopening of the station and the line follows the results of operational test runs that have been carried out and proceeded smoothly. “After various stages of those test runs, KRL journeys on the Bekasi–Cikarang line have resumed operations starting at 14.00 WIB,” said Anne in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. KAI ensured that all stages of service recovery were carried out gradually, measurably, and prioritising the principle of caution. KAI emphasised that safety aspects are the primary priority in every handling and operational recovery process. All processes have undergone thorough inspections to ensure the safety and security of train journeys as well as the comfort of service users. “KAI is committed to always prioritising safety in every operation. The reopening of services at Bekasi Timur Station was carried out after ensuring all safety aspects are met,” she said. With the resumption of operations at Bekasi Timur Station and the normalisation of KRL journeys on the Bekasi–Cikarang line, it is hoped that public mobility can run smoothly again, especially for KRL users in the Bekasi, Cikarang, and surrounding areas.
