Transport Minister Dudy: Number of Travellers During Lebaran Transport Period Reaches 147.55 Million

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the number of people travelling during the Lebaran Transport Period (13-29 March 2026) reached 147.55 million, an increase of 2.53% from the survey result of 143.92 million people. This figure was obtained based on Mobile Positioning Data (MPD).

From the total number of public transport passengers, the Transport Minister noted a 10.87% increase during this year’s Lebaran Transport Period compared to the previous year, from 21.23 million passengers to 23.54 million. The breakdown by transport mode shows road transport with 3.89 million passengers, an 11.64% increase from 3.49 million in 2025; sea transport with 2.02 million passengers, a 9.86% increase from 1.84 million in 2025.

Air transport saw 4.77 million passengers, a 6.97% increase from 4.47 million in 2025; rail transport with 7.31 million passengers, a 10.13% increase from 6.64 million in 2025; and ferry transport with 5.52 million passengers, a 15.36% increase from 4.79 million in 2025.

“This achievement is something we should be grateful for, but it must also serve as material for evaluation for future improvements,” said Transport Minister Dudy after closing the Integrated Lebaran Transport Post for 2026 (1447 H) at the Ministry of Transport Headquarters on Monday, 30 March 2026.

Transport Minister Dudy also reiterated that safety remains the top priority in every transport operation. “There should be no compromise on the airworthiness of facilities, readiness of infrastructure, or compliance with operational standards,” he said.

Based on data from the Indonesian National Police, in terms of safety, the number of traffic accidents during the 2026 Lebaran Transport Period was 3,517 incidents, a 6.31% decrease from the previous year’s total of 3,754 incidents. Accident fatalities also decreased by 31.19% compared to the previous year, with 300 deaths from accidents, down from 436 in the 2025 Lebaran Transport Period.

Transport Minister Dudy continues to push for strengthened safety measures, including ramp checks, field supervision, and integrated traffic control. This also includes the utilisation of technology and information systems to improve responses to on-site dynamics.

On the other hand, the quality of service to the public must also be continuously improved. “Transport must be an effort to move people and goods while providing a sense of safety, comfort, and certainty to the public,” said the Transport Minister.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dudy stated that this year’s Lebaran Transport organisation was a major collective effort involving intensive cross-sector coordination among ministries/institutions, local governments, transport operators, and all related stakeholders. “This collaboration is the key to ensuring the public can undertake their homecoming and return journeys safely, securely, and smoothly,” he said.

He also appreciated the hard work, dedication, and synergy of all parties, including the entire ranks of the TNI, Polri, all related Ministries/Institutions, the entire Ministry of Transport apparatus, local governments, transport operators across all modes, and all parties who worked tirelessly during this year’s Lebaran Transport Period. Additionally, he appreciated the media institutions, mass media, and national journalists for their informative, comprehensive, and honest reporting during the 2026 Lebaran Transport Period, ensuring the public received accurate and complete information on homecoming and return journey conditions.

“I also extend thanks to the entire public who have complied with the instructions of officials and actively participated in maintaining order and safety during their journeys,” said the Transport Minister.

The event was also attended by Deputy Transport Minister Suntana, Polri Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Pol. Agus Suryonugroho, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Teuku Faisal Fathani, Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Mohammad Syafii, along with all High Middle Officials in the Ministry of Transport environment.
