Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi met with Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/2/2026) to discuss security arrangements and smooth operations for the 2026 Lebaran holiday transport period. The meeting emphasised the importance of synchronising transport policy with national stability and security policy, given that public movement during Lebaran is expected to be extremely high.

“Coordination is needed to establish better synchronisation among policymakers in ensuring the smooth implementation of Lebaran 2026 transport operations,” Dudy said in a written statement on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

The Ministry of Transport and the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs are pushing for strengthened security at transport hubs and corridors, management of congestion-prone and traffic jam hotspots, protection of vital national assets, and enhanced preparedness in disaster-prone areas.

Public movement during the 2026 Lebaran period is predicted to exceed 143 million people. Special attention is therefore being given to busy corridors such as the Trans-Java Toll Road and the Merak–Bakauheni and Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry crossings.

Beyond the main homebound routes, the government is also anticipating surges in mobility at tourist attractions, shopping centres, and other public areas that could trigger traffic congestion and security disruptions.

In protecting vital national assets, coordination is focused on safeguarding critical infrastructure such as ports, airports, toll roads, railway lines, and other strategic transport facilities.

For integrated security operations, the government will deploy National Police, Indonesian Armed Forces, and other security personnel at vulnerable points, including rest areas, to maintain order and prevent criminal activity.

Preparedness is also being strengthened in disaster-prone areas that could disrupt public mobility. If necessary, the government will integrate Weather Modification Operations together with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Air Force, the National Police, relevant ministries and agencies, and regional governments.

“We hope that through this solid synergy, the operation of Lebaran 2026 transport services can proceed safely, smoothly, and in a controlled manner so that the public can travel for the homecoming and return journeys safely, comfortably, and securely,” Dudy said.
