Yogyakarta, DIY (ANTARA) - The Special Region of Yogyakarta Transport Agency (Dishub DIY) predicts that the peak of the Lebaran 2026 return flow in its area will occur today, Tuesday.

The Head of the Traffic Division of Dishub DIY, Rizki Budi Utomo, stated that this prediction coincides with the end of the joint Lebaran holidays in several institutions.

“The prediction is for today, because offices reopen tomorrow, except for those with WFA,” said Rizki when contacted in Yogyakarta, DIY, on Tuesday.

He mentioned that the return flow is expected to occur in two waves, namely the first wave on Tuesday and the second wave on Sunday (29/3/2026).

“The prediction is two waves. The first today. The second tomorrow Sunday,” he said.

Rizki assessed that the work from anywhere (WFA) policy and additional leave in the private sector are influencing this year’s return flow patterns, so they do not pile up at one time.

“It’s somewhat helped by the existence of WFA and the private sector taking leave, so it doesn’t pile up in one day,” he said.

Based on traffic monitoring results on 22 March 2026 or two days before the peak return flow, a total of 1,626,349 vehicles entered the DIY region, while 1,391,226 vehicles exited DIY.

According to Rizki, the outbound vehicle flow is starting to be visible at several main entry points.

On the eastern side, through Prambanan, the number of outbound vehicles recorded was 44,310 units, higher than the inbound vehicles at 29,067 units.

Meanwhile, on the northern route through Krasak (Tempel), the outbound vehicle volume was recorded at 53,823 units, nearly balanced with inbound vehicles at 55,015 units.

As for the western side through Temon PJR (Purworejo), outbound vehicles were recorded at 3,984 units, higher compared to inbound vehicles at 2,602 units.

According to him, this condition indicates that the return flow pattern in DIY is not concentrated at one time.

“So, the prediction is that the curve is somewhat flattening, not a single peak,” said Rizki.

Dishub DIY urges all road users to continue to obey traffic signs and follow the directions of officers in the field to maintain the smoothness and safety of the journey.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the DIY Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Ihsan, assured that his side continues to optimise security on main routes, tourist areas, and crowded points to maintain the smoothness and safety of the public during the return flow.
