Transmission lines built

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned electricity company PT PLN will build 200 kilometers of 500-kilovolt transmission lines from Paiton in East Java to Klaten in Central Java, the company's president, Djiteng Marsudi, said yesterday.

"The transmission project, which will be financed by the World Bank, will raise the average power voltage at the 150-kilovolt transmission lines in Central Java from its present critically low level of 133 kilovolt," Djiteng said in Semarang.

The lowest tolerable level for 150-kilovolt transmission is 135 kilovolts.

"Our service to electricity users in the province has been deteriorating", Djiteng was quoted by Antara as saying.

Djiteng gave no details on the cost of the project or when its construction will start.

He said the sharp decline in voltage levels of the transmission lines in Central Java was caused by an overload.(04)
