Transmigration Minister Says Rempang Situation Now More Peaceful, Investment Climate Increasingly Conducive
BATAM — The development of the Rempang area over the past year is said to be showing an increasingly conducive situation. This stability is considered an important foundation for creating a more comfortable investment climate in Batam.
This was conveyed by Transmigration Minister Muhammad Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanegara after attending the Chinese New Year 2577 celebration at Harbour Bay, Batam, accompanying Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) on Monday evening (16/2/2026).
“Alhamdulillah, over the past year the situation has tended to be more peaceful, so it has created an investment climate that is also quite comfortable for everyone,” said Iftitah.
He said his ministry continues to coordinate with the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure, BP Batam, and the Batam City Government to ensure the area’s development proceeds well.
In addition to maintaining stability, the government is also providing legal certainty for residents who have been relocated to new housing in Tanjung Banon.
Rempang had previously attracted attention as the location for the development of the Rempang Eco City National Strategic Project (PSN), which drew opposition from local residents. However, under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, Rempang is no longer on the PSN list.
The Ministry of Transmigration has handed over Land Ownership Certificates (SHM) to hundreds of residents affected by the project in the area. The minister said the certificate handover represents the government’s commitment to providing legal certainty for residents in their new housing.
According to him, the settlement in Tanjung Banon is expected to become an integrated area with complete facilities supporting community life.
