Transmigration Minister Iftitah: Rempang Area Increasingly Peaceful and Conducive for Investment Over Past Year
TRIBUNNEWS.COM, BATAM – Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanegara has claimed that the situation in the Rempang-Galang area is now fully conducive.
Iftitah made the statement whilst accompanying Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) at the Chinese New Year 2577 celebration in the Harbour Bay area, Batam, on Saturday (16/2/2026).
Iftitah revealed that over the past year under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, the approach taken in Rempang has prioritised peace.
“Alhamdulillah, if our media colleagues have been following, over the past year the situation has tended to be more peaceful,” Iftitah told reporters.
According to Iftitah, security stability in Rempang is the key factor in restoring investor confidence. He said the peaceful atmosphere automatically creates a far better investment climate.
“Thus creating an investment climate that is also quite comfortable for everyone. That is what we will continue to build,” he affirmed.
His ministry continues to work in synergy with BP Batam and the Batam City Government to oversee the area’s development programme so that it no longer generates the social unrest seen in the past.
Furthermore, Iftitah stressed that every development in Rempang is closely monitored by the central government. He routinely reports on-the-ground progress to Coordinating Minister AHY.
“We also report to him (Coordinating Minister AHY) at all times, working together to support BP Batam and the Batam city government,” he added.
These routine reports are carried out to ensure that supporting infrastructure development in the relocation area proceeds in tandem with the economic recovery of local communities.
With the increasingly stable situation, the government is optimistic that strategic projects in Rempang will become a new economic engine for Batam without neglecting humanitarian aspects and the welfare of indigenous residents.
