Transjakarta Reviews Fare Increase After 21 Years Without Adjustment, CEO: Minimum Wage Has Risen Eightfold
JAKARTA - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) is currently reviewing plans to increase fares for Transjakarta bus services, which have remained at Rp 3,500 since 2005.
Transjakarta CEO Welfizon Yuza stated that the review has been conducted, and the final decision will be in the hands of the regional government along with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.
“We have conducted a review regarding the fare increase, which is still at Rp 3,500 since 2005. So, approximately 21 years (without an increase),” said Welfizon during a presentation at a meeting with Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD on Thursday (23/4/2026).
This situation necessitates an adjustment to Transjakarta’s fares.
“The (minimum wage) increase has already been 7-8 times, but our fare has held steady for 21 years,” he said.
In addition to regular fares, Transjakarta is also reviewing adjustments for airport services and Transjabodetabek routes.
Specifically for the Blok M to Soekarno Hatta Airport service, it is currently in a three-month trial phase before the final fare is set by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
From a budgetary perspective, Transjakarta’s subsidy in the 2026 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) is recorded at Rp 3.7 trillion.
Welfizon noted that Transjakarta is currently facing dual pressures, namely potential increases in operational costs due to energy prices and a rising number of passengers shifting to public transport.
As a precautionary measure, Transjakarta is implementing cost efficiencies and developing non-ticket revenue sources (non-farebox), such as strategic partnerships and service digitalisation.
Additionally, Transjakarta is beginning to develop a subscription-based ticketing scheme for companies, campuses, and hotels (B2B).
“Our target is for non-farebox revenue this year to reach around Rp 300 billion, so total revenue approaches Rp 1 trillion,” he said.
