Transjakarta Extends Operating Hours on Terminal-Station Routes for Return Journey
PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has prepared a series of measures to anticipate a surge in passengers during the Lebaran return journey. One of these is to extend operating hours on routes connected to major terminals and stations.
Transjakarta’s Chief Executive Welfizon Yuza said the surge in passengers typically occurs during the return flow, especially at Jakarta’s main terminals and stations.
‘As with the return flow, the surge is quite high, and we will usually create special routes and extend operating hours, including increasing the fleet, particularly during the peak return period,’ he said on Wednesday (4 March 2026) when contacted for comment.
He noted that points of concern include Terminal Pulo Gebang and several major stations such as Pasar Senen. The agency will also coordinate with the DKI Jakarta Department of Transportation to adjust on-the-ground needs.
‘We will also anticipate the routes to the stations, to Senen and others,’ he added.
In addition to extending operating hours, Transjakarta will deploy additional fleets at times of high crowding, especially during night hours. This measure is expected to assist travellers arriving in Jakarta from the evening through to the early hours.
Earlier, Transjakarta also confirmed that all services, including Transjabodetabek, would be free during Eid al-Fitr. However, the exact dates of the free policy are still awaiting an official decision from the DKI Jakarta Department of Transportation.
‘The date will of course be determined by the Department of Transportation. There will be a head of department order. We will wait to see whether the date will be 1 Shawwal or what date, 1 and 2; we will see,’ he added.
